Chemical Peels
A chemical peel uses an acid solution to loosen the bonds holding dead cells at the surface, so a fresher layer comes through. The reason peels remain a core treatment is their adjustability: the same category covers a lunchtime refresh and a serious resurfacing session.
Which acid, what strength, how long it stays on, and how many sessions: all of that is set around your skin, what you are treating, and how much recovery you can realistically take that week.
Your practitioner will also say when a peel is the wrong starting point. Skin that is irritated, barrier-compromised or mid-flare usually needs calming first; peeling it in that state tends to make things worse.
How a peel is chosen and applied
At the consultation your practitioner matches the acid and strength to your skin type, your pigment risk, what you are treating, and your downtime tolerance.
On the day, skin is cleansed and prepped, then the solution is applied in controlled layers. Your practitioner watches the skin’s response closely and times removal to that, not to a stopwatch.
The peel is neutralised or removed, and calming, barrier-supporting products are applied before you leave with specific aftercare.
