Dermaplaning
Dermaplaning is the most straightforward thing on our menu and often the most immediately satisfying. Held at a shallow angle, a sterile blade is drawn across taut skin in short passes, taking off the fine vellus hair and the layer of loose dead cells sitting with it.
Nothing is injected and nothing is heated. It suits people who want their skin to look fresher before an event, and it is a useful first step before a peel or a hydrating facial, because whatever goes on afterwards meets bare skin rather than a felted surface.
It is not a hair removal treatment in the laser sense. Vellus hair grows back at the same texture it had before. The long-standing worry about it returning coarser is not how that hair behaves.
How a dermaplaning appointment runs
Your skin is cleansed and dried completely, since the blade needs a dry surface to work cleanly. Your practitioner then works in sections, holding the skin taut with one hand and making short, light strokes with the other.
Most clients describe it as a gentle scraping sensation, closer to a razor than to anything sharp. We avoid any area that is actively broken out, raised or inflamed, and we will say so at the time rather than work around it quietly.
The treatment finishes with a calming serum and a mineral SPF, because freshly dermaplaned skin has lost its top layer of dead cells and takes sun more readily for a few days.

We look at your skin under good light and check for anything active or raised that should be left alone.

Cleanse and dry
Makeup and oils come off completely. The blade will not glide correctly on a damp or oily surface.

Sectioned passes
Short strokes, section by section, with the skin held taut.

Finish and protect
A calming serum, then mineral SPF before you leave.
Aftercare
- Keep the skin out of direct sun for a few days and reapply broad-spectrum SPF.
- Hold off on acids, retinoids and scrubs for about three days.
- Skip hot yoga, saunas and swimming pools for twenty-four hours.

No. Vellus hair returns with the same fine texture it had before. Cutting it at the surface does not change the follicle. It can feel blunter for a day or two as it regrows, which is where the impression comes from.
Sometimes, and it depends on what your skin is doing on the day. Smooth, congested skin often does well. Skin with raised, inflamed or weeping breakouts is not suitable, because the blade would be passing over broken skin, so your practitioner may suggest treating the breakouts first.
Most clients who make it part of a routine come roughly every four weeks, which tracks the skin’s own renewal cycle. Your practitioner will suggest a rhythm after seeing how your skin responds to the first appointment.
Yes, and it is one of the few treatments that suits a short lead time. We would still suggest a few days’ gap rather than the morning of, so any transient redness has settled and you can see how your makeup sits.
Not directly. It works at the surface, not in the layers where lines form. What it may do is make the skin look brighter and more even, which can make fine lines less obvious in certain light.
