Breakouts and blemish-prone skin

Skin that keeps producing new spots: along the jaw, across the forehead, or in the same place every month.

Breakouts and blemish-prone skin

Breakout-prone skin is rarely a single problem. Oil production, how readily the follicle blocks, how reactive the surrounding skin is and what you are using at home all feed into each other, which is why a routine that worked for someone else can do very little for you.

How we approach breakouts and blemish-prone skin

At the Aldergrove clinic we treat the appearance of breakout-prone skin cosmetically: decongesting what is there, calming the skin around it, and building a home routine that is not working against the treatment. Acne can also be a medical condition, and persistent, cystic or scarring acne deserves a physician alongside anything we do.

Common signs of breakouts and blemish-prone skin

  • Spots that return in the same area each month
  • Congestion across the forehead, nose and chin
  • Skin that is oily in places and tight in others
  • Marks left behind long after the spot has gone

See a physician first. Skinholic provides cosmetic treatments only and does not diagnose or treat medical conditions. If anything on your skin is changing, painful, bleeding or will not heal, please see your family doctor or a dermatologist first.

What can contribute to breakouts and blemish-prone skin

  • Oil production and how readily the follicle blocks
  • Products that are too occlusive or too stripping
  • Friction from masks, helmets, phones and pillowcases
  • Hormonal cycles, which your practitioner will ask about

Still deciding?

Let a practitioner look first.

The right treatment depends on what is driving the concern for you. A free consultation in Aldergrove is where that gets worked out.

Reading the pattern behind repeat breakouts

With breakout-prone skin, your practitioner looks at where the spots keep appearing: along the jaw, across the forehead, nose and chin, or in the same place each month. They note whether the skin is oily in places and tight in others, and ask about friction from masks, helmets, phones and pillowcases as well as hormonal cycles. Cystic, painful or scarring breakouts are a question for your family doctor or a dermatologist first.

Acne Facials are often weighed where there is congestion across the forehead and chin, returning blackheads, or breakout-prone skin that is also sensitive. Chemical Peels may suit congestion and post-breakout marks, while the Apocalypsis Phyto-Peel is chosen when congestion comes with sensitivity or skin reacts to strong acids. A drop in new breakouts tends to build over a series and depends as much on your home routine as on the appointment.

What happens when you come in?

Your first visit is a free consultation at the Aldergrove clinic. A practitioner looks at the area in good light, asks how long you have noticed it and what you have already tried, and checks anything that would affect which treatments are suitable: medication, recent sun exposure, previous treatments.

You then hear which of the options above suits your skin, what it realistically achieves, how many sessions it usually takes and what recovery looks like. If the honest answer is that none of them will give you what you want, or that something needs a doctor first, you will hear that instead.

Worth mentioning at your consultation

  • When you first noticed it, and whether it has changed since
  • Products and treatments you have already tried
  • Any medication, supplements or diagnosed skin conditions
  • Holidays, events or sun exposure you are planning around

Before you book

Questions clients ask about breakouts and blemish-prone skin.

Congestion extracted on the day is gone that day, but fewer new breakouts is a pattern that builds over a series, and depends as much on the home routine as on the appointment. Your practitioner will be straightforward about the timeline at your consultation.

If your breakouts are cystic, painful, scarring or have not responded to anything you have tried, please see your family doctor or a dermatologist first. That is a medical question. We are glad to work alongside their plan once they are comfortable with it.

Tell us what you are taking at the consultation. Some medications make skin considerably more fragile and rule out exfoliation and laser work for a period, so the plan is built around that rather than ignoring it.
