Enlarged pores

Pores that look larger across the nose and cheeks, particularly in daylight or a magnifying mirror.

Enlarged pores

Pore size is largely inherited and cannot be changed, which is the honest starting point. What can change is how visible a pore is, and that depends on how much congestion sits inside it, how much oil it produces, and how firm the skin around it is.

How we approach enlarged pores

Treatment therefore works on three fronts: clearing the congestion, managing oil, and improving the quality of the surrounding skin so the opening is less obvious.

Common signs of enlarged pores

  • More visible pores across the nose and inner cheeks
  • Pores that look larger when skin is oily
  • Makeup settling into individual pores
  • A dimpled, orange-peel look in strong light

See a physician first. Skinholic provides cosmetic treatments only and does not diagnose or treat medical conditions. If anything on your skin is changing, painful, bleeding or will not heal, please see your family doctor or a dermatologist first.

What can contribute to enlarged pores

  • Inherited pore size
  • Congestion holding the opening stretched
  • Higher oil production
  • Loss of firmness in the surrounding skin with age

Still deciding?

Let a practitioner look first.

The right treatment depends on what is driving the concern for you. A free consultation in Aldergrove is where that gets worked out.

What makes enlarged pores more or less visible

Because pore size is largely inherited, the assessment is about visibility rather than size. Your practitioner looks at whether pores across the nose and inner cheeks are holding congestion that keeps the opening stretched, how much oil the skin produces, and whether the surrounding skin has lost some firmness with age. You may also be asked whether pores look larger when the skin is oily and whether makeup settles into individual pores.

Skin Resurfacing and Microneedling w/ Exosomes are the two most often suggested, because both work on the skin around the opening; which suits you depends on your skin and how much recovery you can take. Chemical Peels and Acne Facials are weighed where congestion and blackheads are part of the picture. Some pore-minimising products help temporarily by absorbing oil or blurring the surface, but they do not change the pore itself.

What happens when you come in?

Your first visit is a free consultation at the Aldergrove clinic. A practitioner looks at the area in good light, asks how long you have noticed it and what you have already tried, and checks anything that would affect which treatments are suitable: medication, recent sun exposure, previous treatments.

You then hear which of the options above suits your skin, what it realistically achieves, how many sessions it usually takes and what recovery looks like. If the honest answer is that none of them will give you what you want, or that something needs a doctor first, you will hear that instead.

Worth mentioning at your consultation

  • When you first noticed it, and whether it has changed since
  • Products and treatments you have already tried
  • Any medication, supplements or diagnosed skin conditions
  • Holidays, events or sun exposure you are planning around

Before you book

Questions clients ask about enlarged pores.

No, and we will not claim otherwise. Pore size is largely inherited. What treatment can do is reduce how visible they are by clearing congestion and improving the firmness and texture of the skin around them.

For visible pores specifically, resurfacing and microneedling are the two most often suggested because they work on the skin around the opening. Which suits you depends on your skin and how much recovery you can take.

Some help temporarily by absorbing oil or by blurring the surface. They do not change the pore itself, and your practitioner will say so rather than sell you a routine that cannot deliver.
