Unwanted tattoo or faded permanent makeup

Ink you have outgrown, or brows and lip liner that have aged into a colour you never chose.

Unwanted tattoo or faded permanent makeup

Two different problems sit under one heading. Body art is usually denser, deeper and more saturated; cosmetic pigment is lighter, shallower and often contains colours that laser struggles to read.

How we approach unwanted tattoo or faded permanent makeup

Because we offer both Q-switched laser and saline removal, the method is chosen around your ink rather than around what the clinic happens to own. Which one suits you is decided after your practitioner has looked at the work under magnification.

Common signs of unwanted tattoo or faded permanent makeup

  • A tattoo you angle away from the camera
  • Brows that have faded to grey, blue or orange
  • Lip liner that now reads dusky or uneven
  • Old ink that has blurred or spread

See a physician first. Skinholic provides cosmetic treatments only and does not diagnose or treat medical conditions. If anything on your skin is changing, painful, bleeding or will not heal, please see your family doctor or a dermatologist first.

What can contribute to unwanted tattoo or faded permanent makeup

  • Taste and circumstances changing over time
  • Sun exposure fading and shifting ink
  • Cosmetic pigment ageing differently from body ink
  • Previous cover-ups layering pigment

Still deciding?

Let a practitioner look first.

The right treatment depends on what is driving the concern for you. A free consultation in Aldergrove is where that gets worked out.

Choosing a removal route for unwanted tattoos and cosmetic ink

Your practitioner looks at the ink under magnification and works out whether it is body art, usually denser, deeper and more saturated, or cosmetic pigment, which is lighter, shallower and often contains colours that laser struggles to read. They note colour shifts such as brows faded to grey, blue or orange, or lip liner that reads dusky, and whether old ink has blurred, spread or been layered by a previous cover-up.

Tattoo Removals covers both routes: Q-switched laser is usually the route for dense body ink, while saline lifting usually suits cosmetic brows and lips and colours laser cannot read. Q-Switch 1064 Laser Rejuvenation is chosen for uneven pigment, and Scar Relaxation for tissue that healed tight, raised or ridged. Not every tattoo can be fully removed, and many clients find fading enough for a cover-up is achievable and faster than chasing complete clearance.

What happens when you come in?

Your first visit is a free consultation at the Aldergrove clinic. A practitioner looks at the area in good light, asks how long you have noticed it and what you have already tried, and checks anything that would affect which treatments are suitable: medication, recent sun exposure, previous treatments.

You then hear which of the options above suits your skin, what it realistically achieves, how many sessions it usually takes and what recovery looks like. If the honest answer is that none of them will give you what you want, or that something needs a doctor first, you will hear that instead.

Worth mentioning at your consultation

  • When you first noticed it, and whether it has changed since
  • Products and treatments you have already tried
  • Any medication, supplements or diagnosed skin conditions
  • Holidays, events or sun exposure you are planning around

Before you book

Questions clients ask about unwanted tattoo or faded permanent makeup.

Laser is usually the route for dense body ink; saline is usually the route for cosmetic brows and lips and for colours laser cannot read. The honest recommendation comes after your practitioner has seen the tattoo.

Not always, and we would rather say that at the start. Many clients find that fading enough for a cover-up is both achievable and faster than chasing complete clearance.

It is a series with healing time between visits. The number varies enormously with the ink and the method, so you are given a range at the consultation and it is revised as the ink responds.
