About Scar Relaxation
Scar Relaxation
Scar tissue heals differently from the skin around it: collagen laid down in a disorganised way, often tighter, sometimes raised. Scar relaxation aims to encourage that tissue to remodel so it reads and feels closer to normal skin.
We use two tools for this and choose between them. Microneedling creates controlled micro-channels to prompt remodelling and suits softer, textured scarring. Viva MD NanoFractional radiofrequency drives deeper and is often preferred for denser, more established scar tissue.
Some scars respond well; others change modestly. Your practitioner will handle the scar, assess how mobile and dense it is, and give you a straight answer rather than an optimistic one.
Choosing the method
Your practitioner assesses the scar: its age, how raised or indented it is, how tethered it feels, and how your skin has healed previously.
Softer textural scarring is often approached with microneedling. Denser, thicker or more established scar tissue is more often approached with NanoFractional radiofrequency, which delivers energy deeper into the tissue.
Either way it is a course. Remodelling is gradual, and the plan is reviewed as the scar responds rather than fixed at the first visit.

The questions clients ask us most about Scar Relaxation.
No. Scar tissue can often be softened so it is flatter, more pliable and less obvious, but it does not become ordinary skin again. Your practitioner will tell you what degree of change is realistic for your scar.
Yes. Newer scars are often still remodelling and may respond more readily, while older, established scars usually need more sessions. Both can be worth treating; the timeline differs.
Keloids behave differently and carry a risk of worsening with some treatments. If you have formed keloids before, say so at the consultation. This is a situation where we may ask you to see a physician before anything is planned.
It is one of the more common requests. Your practitioner will check the scar is fully healed and mature enough to treat, and will discuss timing if you are still breastfeeding.
