About Tattoo Removals
Tattoo Removals
We offer two methods, and they are genuinely different rather than two names for the same thing. Which suits you depends on the ink, where it sits, your skin, and whether we are dealing with body art or cosmetic pigment.
Q-switched laser removal sends very short pulses into the skin that break the ink into fragments small enough for your body to carry away over the following weeks. It is the usual route for most body tattoos.
Saline removal works from the other direction: a saline solution is applied into the pigmented area to draw the ink upward, where it lifts away as the skin heals. It is the usual route for cosmetic tattooing, and for pigment colours laser struggles to read.
Q-switched laser versus saline: how we choose
Laser suits most body ink and is particularly effective on dense, dark pigment. It needs the ink to absorb the laser’s light, so colours such as white, flesh tones and some pastels are poor candidates; these can even darken.
Saline suits cosmetic tattooing: brows, lip liner and similar work, where pigment is often lighter, sits shallower, and may contain the very colours laser cannot read. It is also an option for skin that does not tolerate laser well.
At the consultation your practitioner looks at the ink under magnification (its age, depth, colour load, and how your skin has healed in the past) and tells you which method they would use and roughly how the series would run. A plan may stay with a single method from start to finish, or move between the two as the ink gives way.

Benefits of Tattoo Removals
Tattoo Removals at our Aldergrove clinic is planned around your skin. Here is what it is designed to do.
- 01Two methods, one assessmentBecause both are available here, the method is chosen around your ink rather than around what the clinic happens to own.
- 02Laser for dense body inkQ-switched pulses fragment ink so the body can clear it gradually over the series.
- 03Saline for cosmetic pigmentBrows, lip liner and colours laser cannot read are lifted rather than fragmented.
- 04Cover-up preparationMany clients only need the ink light enough for a tattoo artist to work over, which is a shorter plan than full clearance.
Suitability
Who Tattoo Removals is for
Clients usually ask about this treatment for one of the reasons below. A consultation confirms whether it suits you.
- A tattoo you have outgrown
- Fading ink before a cover-up
- Brows or lips that have changed colour
- Ink that no longer suits you
Only a consultation can confirm this. Skinholic provides cosmetic treatments only and does not diagnose or treat medical conditions. If anything on your skin is changing, painful, bleeding or will not heal, please see your family doctor or a dermatologist first.
Inside Tattoo Removals

Your appointment
What to expect, step by step.
How a tattoo removals appointment runs at the Aldergrove clinic.
- 01
Assessment
Your practitioner examines the ink (age, depth, colours, your skin history) and recommends a method.
- 02
Patch test
A small test area is commonly treated first, particularly where laser is planned.
- 03
The series
Sessions are spaced with healing time in between; progress is reviewed and the plan adjusted.
- 04
Review against your goal
Whether you want full fading or a workable base for a cover-up changes where the series stops.
Aftercare
- Let any crust or scab lift on its own. Picking it is what risks marking the skin.
- Keep the area out of the sun and covered with broad-spectrum SPF between sessions.
- Avoid swimming, saunas and heavy sweating while the area is healing.
Good to know
Frequently asked questions.
The questions clients ask us most about Tattoo Removals.
Neither in the abstract: they suit different situations. Laser is usually the route for dense body ink; saline is usually the route for cosmetic brows and lips and for colours laser cannot read. The honest recommendation comes after your practitioner has seen the tattoo.
Not always, and we would rather say that at the start. How much lightening is realistic depends on the ink used, how deep it sits, its age, its colours and your skin. Many clients find that fading enough for a cover-up is both achievable and faster than chasing complete clearance.
Tattoo removal is a series with healing time between visits. The number varies enormously with the ink and the method, so your practitioner gives you a range at the consultation and revises it as the ink actually responds.
Laser sessions are commonly described as a hot snapping sensation; saline is usually described as a scratching pressure. Comfort measures are discussed beforehand, and the session is paced to what you can tolerate.
Usually, once the skin has fully recovered. If a cover-up is the goal, say so at the consultation; the plan is built to leave a workable base rather than to chase maximum clearance.
